Punch Press / Die Setter
Competency Training Objectives:
Participants are required
to demonstrate their ability to set up a press correctly, safely, and
produce a satisfactory finished part
Significantly
increase the knowledge of punch press operations and requirements
through theoretical and practical training and testing
Program Content: Understanding the legal
requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
Key points of the Canadian
Standards Association Code for Power Press Operation: Health, Safety,
and Guarding Requirements
Parts of the mechanical
press, actual identification of the parts of the press (crankshaft,
gears, ram adjustment, counterbalance system, brake monitor etc,) on
the shop floor and demonstrate the use of controls
Parts of the hydraulic press,
actual identification of the parts of the press (reservoir, hydraulic
cylinders, etc.,) on the shop floor and demonstrate the use of controls
Conducting pre shift inspections
Lock-out procedures and
following the procedures correctly
Use of blocking devices
and proper installation
Identifying the different
types of guards and guarding devices and how they operate
Demonstrating their role
in an entrapment rescue situation
Demonstrating proper set
up and clamping of dies in the machine
Adjusting the air-counterbalance
system
Housekeeping
Material Handling basics
Use of auxiliary equipment
Suggested Participants:
Press operators, die setters,
supervisors, group leaders, and health & safety committee members.
Course Duration:
Each participant attends two
seven hour group sessions of theory training, one four hour group session
of theory training, two sessions at two hours each of practical training
(group of two participants), and a final individual practical session
of four hours. Every participant completes a total of twenty-six hours.
Note: The program can be customized to meet the customers specific
requirements.

Management Overview Objectives: Provide an understanding
of legal requirements (Occupational Health & Safety Act and Canadian
Standards Association guidelines (Z142-2) for a metal stamping facility.
Provide basic information of machinery functions and requirements

engineers, and health & safety committee members.
Program Duration:

size is 20)
