O.H.S.A. – “The Green Book”
O.H.S.A. and Regulations for Industrial Establishments. R.R.O. 1990, Section #51, (R28), A lifting device shall:
A) Where the operator may be exposed to hazardous falling material and to make sure you always have a cab, screen, canopy guard and/or other adequate protection. B) Always, with pneumatic or hydraulic hoists have controls that automatically return to the neutral position once they are released.
C) To adequately ensure the safety of all workers, be equipped with suitable ropes, chains, slings and other fittings for strength.
D) Always be thoroughly examined by a competent person to ensure the capability handling for the maximum load requirements.
(1) Prior to being used for the first time, and
(2) thereafter as often as necessary but not less frequently than recommended by the manufacturer and in any case, at least once a year.
Remember: A permanent record must be kept and signed by the competent person doing the examination(s).
E) Always have the industrial equipment plainly/clearly marked with sufficient information to enable the operator of the device to determine the maximum rated load that the device is capable of lifting under certain operating conditions.
